Class Descriptions
Level 3 @ Fitness First Alexandria
A flow yoga class that focuses on using the breath to transition from one pose to another. Classes focus on upper body weight bearing postures, lower body strengthening, core stability, balance, and flexibility. This class is open to Fitness First members only.
Lunch Yoga
A one hour yoga class designed to release tension, sharpen your mind, and lift your spirits to set you right for your day. This is an open level class, so all are welcome.
Yin/Yang Stretch
Referring to Taosit principles, Yin is stable, still, hidden while Yang is moving, changing, revealing. To create balance and harmony, this class offers an opportunity for students to explore both Yin and Yang postures and concepts. Classes begin with Yin Yoga postures to gently stretch connective tissue (tendons, ligaments, fascia) in the lower body while cultivating an attitude of compassion, peacefulness and mindfulness. Gentle warm-ups follow to create heat for more active Yang stretches that reduce tension, aches and pain in the muscles. Blending Yin and Yang postures creates a contemplative, meditative atmosphere, perfect for exploring one's inner environment.
Ashtanga Vinyasa
Inspired by the teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, this vigorous form of vinyasa practice follows the primary series (plus some secondary postures) to cleanse the body while building strength and flexibility. Ashtanga Vinyasa is an intermediate to advanced form of yoga, appropriate for students with some experience with "flow" practice.
Sunrise Vinyasa
Set the tone and mood for you entire day with this early morning practice. When the mind is quiet in the morning, you'll find a clearer connection to the Self, leaving you feeling calm, centered and energized. For experienced practitioners, this class includes flowing posture sequences and conditioning movements to build strength and stamina, inversions to invigorate the body and stimulate the nervous system, as well as meditation and pranayama to develop focus and clarity.
