Jennifer O'Sullivan

Jennifer's yoga classes are an eclectic blend of foundational practices like Ashtanga Vinyasa and Yin Yoga, as well as free-form expressions of meditation in motion. She is deeply inspired by the mindfulness teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, Sarah Powers' Insight Yoga, and the expansive wisdom of the Buddha. Jennifer encourages her students to abide in the breath through the ups and downs of practice and life.

Originally trained in the strict Vaganova Method of classical ballet, Jennifer was drawn to yoga not for its physical benefits but for the emphasis on personal exploration and transformation. Yoga offered a freedom in the body that she'd never before experienced. She was also immediately impressed by the power of pranayama and meditation to quiet her restless mind. Jennifer began teaching yoga in 2005 with an emphasis on stress relief and meditation.

Recent experience navigating chronic pain has led Jennifer to therapeutic applications of yoga and meditation. Self-Awakening Yoga Therapeutics and Yin Yoga are keystones in her personal practice and teaching.

Jennifer endeavors to help her students reconnect to the body’s inherent wisdom and find deeper awareness of themselves and their true nature. She believes asana, pranayama, meditation, and bodywork are essential ingredients for modern living.

Jennifer holds yoga teaching certifications from Pure Prana Yoga Studio in Alexandria, Virginia (RYT 200); the Nosara Yoga Institute (Self-Awakening Yoga & RYT 500); Manju Jois (Ashtanga Yoga); and Biff Mithoefer (Yin Yoga). She is also a certified Pranassage and Thai Massage practitioner, receiving certifications from the Nosara Yoga Institute and the Thai Institute of Healing Arts respectively. She is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level. Jennifer is also the Assistant Director of Pure Prana Yoga Studio's Holistic Yoga Teacher Training.

Jennifer is grateful for the love and support of all her many teachers, especially her husband Bob and daughter Tilly.

When not on her mat, Jennifer offers graphic design and online communications consulting services to small businesses, companies, and non-profits that work to support a healthy planet and improve the quality of life for people everywhere. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations and French from Tulane University in New Orleans.
